Bagdad Elementary School in Leander, Texas

Yay, the first grade class of Bagdad Elementary School in Leander, Texas has joined our gang of red hat toting readers! I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a book release more than with Red Hat, I feel so lucky every time someone sends me a picture for the contest. It is so much fun to get things from readers and I’m in awe of all the creative ways people are showing me their red hats. Thank you to all who have contributed so far!! What fun this is.

Ok, I’m going to keep this a short entry today and let the picture speak for itself – plus beatrix (my parrot) is on my shoulder right now and she’s eaten two keys off my keyboard already! Its time for her to go back on her perch and me to get some work done.

Red Hat Photos This Week (Jan 19)

I’m very excited to have received a few more pictures for my RED HAT contest! What fun!! Here are a few of them. And we've posted more on the contest site.

And someone has a sense of humor – I love it!!

My mom drew an extra special one – a chickadee sporting an adorable hat.

I also wanted to share a wonderful photo I received from a reader who gave Red Sled to his grandson for Christmas. They baked a little house that looked just like the cottage in the book – this made me smile! I just wanted to give a big thank you to all readers who send me letters, or drawings, and photos. It can be lonely work creating art and books. Most of the time I’m burrowed away in my studio, drawing, drawing, drawing, trying to bring life to a character, and wondering if anyone will love it. But when readers send me little notes and share their stories, it makes me feel that I’m never alone. We’re all connected through the stories we share. For that I’m deeply grateful.

Red Hat Contest

I’m eager to announce the Red Hat Contest is up and going now! Please join the fun by sending me pictures or drawings of you and your pets wearing red hats!! It’s lots of fun.
